There are plenty of laws about concealed carry, but what about just carrying my own personal handgun?

Are there any laws about just strapping my gun to my waist not concealing it?

I have asked a few policemen that I know but I can’t get any straight answer. According to the Military Police I know I can’t carry a firearm onto my Army post loaded or not.

But what about off post out in the local towns?
